In order to compete in the marketplace, today?s design offices must find ways to find, sort through, organize, use and share the increasing amount of information required to bring complex and complicated projects to fruition. No longer is it possible to practice outside the boundaries of technology. Fortunately, electronic information and technology have made tremendous strides toward solving these issues. Advanced technology, the Internet and training programs are rapidly bringing the profession increasing opportunities in competitive environments for streamlining the design process while stretching its potential beyond past capabilities. 10 or 15 years ago, buildings like the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain and the new world trade center in New York would have been either impossible to design or would most certainly have taken more time and energy than costs would have allowed. Today?s class will take you through some of the electronic information and technology available to you and demonstrate the value of the electronic office. We will discuss technology as it applies to architecture and design while Primarily focusing on the web as a major resource. |
